What is That Smell?

Is there a smell or lingering odor in your home that you can’t seem get rid of, no matter how hard you scrub? It might be because you are cleaning the wrong area in your home! Read this and find out unusual places that may be the cause of your weird odor, how to clean them, and ways to keep your house smelling amazing.

Places to Clean

The Garbage Disposal

Not many people think this sink appliance needs to be cleaned but, you will notice a difference (in smell too) when it is. Cleaning your garbage disposal is easier than you think, no digits will be harmed, we promise. To clean, take lemon and lime rinds you may have laying around the kitchen and run them through the disposal with warm water.  Then pour in a half cup of baking soda. Your garbage disposal should smell fresh and clean after.

Trash Cans

Trash cans are another area that does not get much attention. You are constantly throwing food into them; do you ever make note when the bag slips or when magically misses the bag? (You can blame your children later.) It might seem weird but clean the trash cans! Take out the trash and before you put another trash bag in, take it outside, add some dish soap into the bottom and spray is down. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

Refrigerator

Your fridge is probably not being cleaned enough. The recommended amount of time to clean your fridge is once every month. (Yes that’s right, twelve times a year. Go to you fridge and get started. We know you have not touched it since before Thanksgiving.)

Smells good now! Time to keep it that way!

Stove Simmer

Add a cup of water into a saucepan and add citrus slices, essential oils, herds, and spices. Oranges with cinnamon and nutmeg with a little bit of vanilla is a good one to try! No need for measurement, the more you add of a certain item the more the room will smell like it. Heat up the water to a boil then reduce the heat into a simmer. Leave it on low heat for 20 -30 minutes and the whole room will smell like your special concoction.

Car Freshener in Your Vents

Putting a car freshener in you air vents will dispute the freshener fragrance better than a wall plug in. You are already using the vents to circulate air why not some fresh fragrances. (Note: do not use new car smell. Good for a car, not for a home.)
