Simple Halloween Crafts for Your Family

Halloween is an exciting time of year from dressing up in costumes, spooky haunted houses, carving pumpkins, or finding the house that gives out the best candy. One of the most exciting parts of any holiday is decorating your home. Crafting with the family is one of the best ways to decorate and can be a fun family activity. Crafting is also a great way to save money because you can get the majority of your supplies at your local dollar store and create something that looks store bought. Celebrate the spookiest time of year by trying out these scary fun crafts and put your whole family in the Halloween spirit!

Paper Bat Craft

Paper bats are similar to paper snowflakes in the way that you can hang them on your wall for decoration. This fun and easy craft is a great idea for Halloween and perfect for adding that spooky touch to your home. The supplies you will need are:

  • Glue Dots
  • Scissors
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Paper Bat Template

After you’ve found your template, you can cut it out and tape or hold down your construction paper and cut around it. You then want to fold the bat in half to make it look like its wings are off the wall when they are placed.

Placement of the bats is the part where they get to come to life. After putting the glue dots on the back, you can get creative with where you want them. Arranging them in different directions gives them the illusion that they are flying and moving. Some common places to decorate with them are around your mantel, picture frames, and fireplace.

Halloween Lantern Jars

Tissue paper lantern jars are a great craft for any age. They can be reused year after year for your decoration and make a wonderful keepsake. The supplies you will need are:

  • Clean Jars
  • Orange tissue paper
  • Decoupage glue/mod podge
  • Black paper
  • Paint brush
  • Candle or electric tealight

The steps from there are simple. Cut or rip up your tissue paper into little squares and brush the glue on the jar. Start placing the tissue paper on top layering till you are pleased and adding glue when needed. Once the glue is dry, you can get creative and cut out your own jack o’Lantern face with the black paper. After you glue the jack o’lantern face and add your final layer of glue, you can put your tealight inside and place

Craft Stick Spider Web

With everything from pumpkins to bats, there are so many fun things to make but stick spider webs are always a crowd favorite! These spider webs are a great decoration to hang up around your home! The supplies that you will need are:

  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Yarn
  • Optional: spider stickers

Now it’s time to get creative. Take three of your popsicle sticks and glue them together. Then you take your paint color of your choice and paint the sticks.

Once the paint has dried, cut a long piece of yarn and tie it to one end of a stick. Wrap your yarn around each stick till you have created the perfect spider web. Once you’re done, tie it off to the end of one of the sticks and leave a tail of yarn to hang. And there you have it, the perfect wall hanging decoration created by your family!

Yarn Pumpkins Using Balloons

These Fall pumpkins are fun to make and such a great touch to add to any table or mantle. This craft is a great example of thinking outside the box to create your own decoration. The supplies you will need are:

  • Orange yarn
  • White glue
  • Balloons
  • Green and brown pipe cleaners

Start by blowing up your balloon to the size that you want the pumpkin and tie it off. Cut a decently long piece of yarn and tie it to the end of the balloon. Put some glue in a bowl and soak the yarn by swirling it around gently. A helpful tip is running a fork down the yarn to strain off the extra glue. Wrap the string around the balloon until you are happy with the outcome. Find a place to hang your balloon to dry (place a towel underneath to protect from any drippage).

Once fully dry, gently press down the balloon to detach it from the yarn. Make a small hole in the balloon to deflate and carefully pull the deflated balloon through one of the openings. Make the stem by wrapping the pipe cleaners around your fingers and attach     it to the pumpkin. Then you are done! You now have the perfect centerpiece for your home.
